Three moments in my life left lasting impressions that, years later, I came to recognize as roots of Ice Frontiers: my mother introducing me to a pioneer of high-latitude sailing when I was a teenager, watching a film documenting the retreat of glaciers around the world, and experiencing a record-breaking wildfire that made climate change personal.
